Airport to Essaouira: the four ways compared
This is the one Essaouira journey nobody plans properly. Most guides tell you how to get from Marrakech city to Essaouira and quietly assume you have already spent a night in Marrakech. Plenty of people have not - they land at RAK in the afternoon and want to be on the coast for dinner. What exists for them is narrower than it looks, because every scheduled option departs from the city, not the airport.

The detail that matters: Marrakech Menara is roughly 7 km southwest of Jemaa el-Fna, on the same side of the city the N8 leaves from. Going into Marrakech to catch a coach out of Marrakech means crossing the city twice and paying for the privilege. A direct transfer is not just faster, it is a shorter drive than the city-to-coast run everybody quotes.
When to do it the cheap way instead
If you land before noon, you are one or two people with hand luggage, and a night in Marrakech was on the plan anyway, ignore all of the above. Take bus 19 for 30 dirhams, sleep in the medina, and get a morning Supratours coach to Essaouira for about 140 more. You will spend a fraction of €95 and see a city worth seeing. The private car earns its price on the arrivals where that plan does not fit: an evening landing, four people with boards or suitcases, a riad in Essaouira expecting you tonight, or a return flight out of RAK that you cannot risk missing.
