Why this run costs more than the medina

Airport to the medina or Gueliz is a 6 km, 15-minute job. The Palmeraie starts about 8 km out and spreads over roughly 15,000 hectares of palm grove, so depending on your address the drive is 25 to 35 minutes and can be twice the distance of the city run.

There is also no through traffic to share: the Palmeraie is villas, resorts and unlit palm tracks, so the driver returns empty. The €30 covers that, and it is fixed - it does not rise because your villa turns out to be down a longer piste than the last one.

Getting the address right matters here more than anywhere

This is the one part of Marrakech where a hotel name alone is not enough. The Palmeraie has no street grid, many properties share access tracks, signage is minimal and at night it is genuinely dark. Two resorts with similar names can be fifteen minutes apart.

When you book, give us the exact property name and, if you have it, the pin your hotel sent you. Nobody wants to be circling palm tracks at midnight, least of all the driver.

What the Palmeraie is

A historic palm grove north-east of the medina, traditionally irrigated by underground khettara channels and now the address for a lot of Marrakech's resort hotels, golf courses and private villas. It is quiet, green and spread out - the opposite of the medina in every way.

It suits travellers who want a pool, space and calm, and it suits families. It suits people who want to walk out of the door into a souk considerably less: you will be taking a taxi in and out of town each time, which is worth factoring into the holiday.

For trips into the medina during your stay, ask the driver - most of our Palmeraie guests end up booking a couple of city runs, and it is cheaper agreed in advance than negotiated at the resort gate.
