How far is the Ourika valley from Marrakech?
About 35 km south, roughly an hour by road. The valley climbs from Marrakech's 470 m to around 1,500 m at Setti Fatma.
How much is a transfer to Ourika?
€45 per vehicle, not per person. The driver waits while you walk, so there is no fixed return time.
How do I get back from Ourika to Marrakech?
Your driver waits - that is included. If you would rather come back independently, grand taxis run from Setti Fatma but leave only when full.
Is there a bus to the Ourika valley?
Local buses and grand taxis run from Bab Er Robb in Marrakech for 20 to 30 MAD, but they stop wherever passengers want and can take well over 90 minutes.
How long is the walk to the waterfalls?
30 to 45 minutes to the first one from Setti Fatma, over rocks and a few improvised bridges. Trainers with grip, not sandals. The remaining six take two to three hours more.
Do I need a guide for the waterfalls?
Not for the first one - the path is obvious and busy. Local guides wait at the village and cost little if you want to go higher.
Is the Ourika valley safe?
In dry weather, yes. After heavy rain it floods fast: a flash flood swept through Setti Fatma in August 1995 and killed many people. Do not enter the riverbed when it is raining, and your driver will say the same.
When is Ourika busiest?
Sundays and public holidays, when Marrakchis drive out to escape the heat. Go on a weekday or leave early.
How much cooler is Ourika than Marrakech?
Usually 5 to 10 °C cooler, and more once you are walking beside the river. That is most of the reason people come in summer.
Can we combine Ourika with anything else?
Yes. Ourika and a Berber house visit fill a comfortable day, or you can pair it with the Agafay desert for sunset on the way back.
Is it suitable for children?
The drive is easy and the first waterfall walk is manageable for most children over about six. Beyond that it gets steep and slippery.
Can we stop at the Monday souk?
Yes. Tnine Ourika holds its souk on Mondays and it fills the roadside - worth twenty minutes if your trip falls on the right day.
